Top-Up Programme Update
Highlights from Top-Up
- The Top-Up Programme tutor recruitment took place in September/October 2009. 295 applications were received, 85 people were interviewed and 30 new tutors were appointed. 42 tutors continued from 2008-09.
- Tutor training was conducted between Monday 26 October and Wednesday 4 November. New tutors received 15 hours of training and continuing tutors attended for 9 hours. A further 4 hours of training will be delivered in January/February 2010.
- School sessions began on Monday 30 November and will run weekly until Thursday 1 April 2010.
- Around 1,100 pupils are expected to register on the Programme across 33 schools.
- The Top-Up Programme Lecture Campus Sessions were held on Monday 14 December and Tuesday 15 December at the University of Glasgow (Gilmorehill Campus) and on Wednesday 16 December at the University of Strathclyde (Jordanhill Campus). The topics covered in the lecture were: 'The Human Body as a Medical Commodity' and 'History and All That'.
- Undergraduate mentors will be assisting the school pupils during the lecture sessions, some of whom attended FOCUS West schools and completed the Top-Up Programme in school before progressing to university.
